LA DISTRIBUTRICE

LA DISTRIBUTRICE is a genius architectural design idea for use of space for a coffee shop. The idea of this coffee shop is that it's a takeout coffee service and it's straight to the point. A barista serves you directly on the street, next to a popular subway station. It is the smallest coffee shop in North America and it's located Montreal. It is for people who are on the go, and also aren't ordering super complicated drinks that take up too much time. This idea is strictly for coffee, espresso and americanos. Everything from the product design, typography, to the small space usage, is inviting. The materials were chosen because coffee on the go is an idea of not lingering. This place doesn't have anywhere to sit, doesn't have more than 3 options and it's located in a busy place. Making it easier to carry out the to coffee to-go concept. This is a great idea, the only way it can be improved is by adding more locations.

Glass Cabin

With climate changes there should be more ideas about recycling and being efficient with designs, like this architectural design. The glass cabin is made from discarded windows, and most materials that were saved from a nearby barn. Designer Lilah Horwitz and photographer Nick Olson built their home with $500 dollars and months of physical labor. It functions like a cabin, for people who want to get away, and it’s intended to be used in mountains, near lakes etc. A certain type of getaway for city people. The materials were chosen because they would make the project cheaper, and it would also give it a rustic look. The idea is great, but it could use plumbing and electricity, which would add to the budget. They could use solar panels and rent to people, that way they can get inspired to go green.

Nazi Imagery

The music video for Nicki Minaj is design to shock people along with her lyrics, it is meant for her fans People aren't happy about this video from Nicki Minaj, because they're upset about them including Nazi imagery. It includes the visual elements to the Third Reich, including the color scheme, and the logo of their record label. She also sits in a throne as a dictator looking at thousands of soldiers.People took it as disrespectful, and want it to be taken down."The irony should be lost on no one that this video debuted on the 76th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the 'night of broken glass' pogrom that signaled the beginning of the Final Solution and the Holocaust."  Nicki's excuse for the poor choice is that she didn't come up with the concept but takes full responsibility for it. She said that the artist who came up with the concept wasn't inspired by Nazi's but a cartoon. This design is a fail, the color scheme, along with her dictator position is almost an exact imitation for Nazi imagery. With the excessive complaints, most people could recognize the imagery, along with the swastika like arm band logos. This video concept is a complete fail and should be taken down and redone. If they wanted to get bad attention, then it would be the only reason why the concept and images were chosen.

Quality Moments?

This Exxon & Mobil advertisement are on the side of their gas pump, with two slogans. One Saying that "Quality moments ruled here." and "Energy lives here.'' The targeted audience would be the consumer who is pumping gas. Letting their customers know about the quality and great moments you can experience by buying from Exxon and Mobil. This advertisement fail because the photograph shows the girl with her head sticking almost out of the window. It shows that this gas company doesn't think too highly of women. This advertisement could of been better by photographing actual "quality" moments. Like the couple holding hands, photo taken at an angle where you could see the couple & a baby in the backseat. Anything would be better than portraying the woman like an animal in the car, unless she was trying to escape foul smells from inside the car, by which wouldn't be quality moments either.

Hang on

The Monsieur DressUp is a unique coat rack design by Anna Thomas, they are made of maple and you can purchase them individually or more than one. The image shows the coat hanger set up by itself & how it would  look with more. The idea it that it's not your normal hook where it leaves a dent on your clothes, The Monsieur DressUp maintains the delicacy and the shape of your favorite clothes. The shapes of the wall hooks make an interesting design on your wall or wherever you decide to place them, at the door, by the bed or a bathroom. This product design gives the freedom to an individual to locate these anywhere. This idea is for someone who wants something different and simple. The materials were probably chosen so they wouldn't ruin your clothing. This is a great idea, the fact that they are not connected to each other makes it visually more pleasing and the they don't ruin your clothes.

Dress Normal?

This GAP's new dress normal campaign is meant to reach out to a younger market that isn't afraid to be basic. It is meant to sell the idea that magazines will be telling you what to wear this Fall. It has recruited actors that aren't flashy with their style or just care that their work speak for them and not their clothes. Saying that even if your shirt is normal, you are definitely not. Gap has signed on Sofia Coppola to direct four awkward commercials, for the holidays, to portray different weird family situations. And although this design is meant to reach an audience that isn't afraid to be "normal" this campaign is a fail, because people don't want to be normal. People want to dress like celebrities and models, or why didn't they use normal people for the campaign? They used celebrities that they thought, dressed pretty basic to start off with. They're photographed not doing much in clothes that don't stand out. It's weird to have celebrities telling you not to stand out, since the campaign has launched, analysts admitted that it might of been too normal to appeal to a mass market. They wanted to give people the confidence to be themselves and not to be told what to wear, but they failed to understand their audience or just people. People don't want to realize they're normal or boring, they don't want to hear what some consider, the truth.  This idea could be better  by reaching out to their customers differently, instead of telling them to Dress Normal, they could just tell them to make their own style from using their pieces. Using Sofia Coppola to capture moments of in different scenarios that make someone feel special and it happened while wearing GAP clothes. Maybe someones first kiss, or graduation, because peoples clothes shouldn't be normal, they should be special, like their experiences. They should've worded it differently.

Succulent Design

A perfect idea for homes is a design for gardens or front yards that conserve water. This eco friendly house would use less maintenance and water than grass. People should rethink their yards with the drought but also get something visually pleasing, to continue making their homes unique. The idea of a succulent garden is exactly that, saving water while maintaining it's beauty. Succulents store water in their stems and leaves and can tolerate periods of dryness without harm. This idea is to be used to replace grass. Home owners could also use pebbles or other small rocks to create a dry garden. This idea is for people who also want to avoid tickets that come along with wasting water, getting smarter about water usage.  This is a great idea for California residents being affected by the drought, and it's very good because they are offering  rebate for your grass. The way this idea could be improved is by showing residents better designs for their lawns, some people cannot picture their lawns being substituted by a cactus, the idea has to be advertised in a better way.

Kindle

The kindle reads like a book, and goes beyond a book. The idea is that you read it like it would be a book, but there’s no paper. This kindle doesn’t give a glare, even with bright sunlight. It is able to store thousands of books and it’s lighter than a book, making it easier to carry. This concept is for book lovers who want books to be at their disposal at all times. This makes it easier to download them as well, it also has other features, apps like Goodreads and Vocabulary builder. The battery lasts for weeks as well and it’s not that pricey, you could find it of for $79 dollars. It has built in wi-fi and you could try it for free for a month. This idea makes it easy so that you can take all your books at once, wherever you go. And you can share the books you’ve purchased with whoever you want. This is a good idea for people who want to read during a flight, or by the pool and if they’re bored of what they’re reading they could move on. Or if kids are reading and don’t understand a certain word, it is easy to look up the word by just clicking it, saving time of looking for a dictionary or finding your phone. It’s all in one place and with so many offers for books being sold for a cheaper price, it probably is worth it for the avid reader.

Apple Watch

The Apple watch will be out early 2015, it's a clean and more fashionable version of other smart watches. Giving choices to people who wanted a watch to be a bit more personal. There's a watch for everyone. This watch is more of a tool. There is the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. The Apple watch comes with stainless steel or space black stales steel cases. Sapphire crystal, and comes with a range of stylish bands. The sport version comes with anodized aluminum cases in silver or space gray. Strengthened Ion-X glass. Colorful, durable bands. And the watch edition is 18-karat gold cases in yellow or rose sapphire crystal, and exquisitely crafted bands and closures. It'll start at $349, and there's already good and bad reviews for it. Apple is known for launching their new products with limited amount of features and really improving the experience for the second generations.Although it's a beautiful design, this watch will not work unless you have an iPhone. This idea could be improved and probably sell better if it was available for everyone.

An obvious BUS stop

The act of waiting in a bus stop is dreadful for many, usually not enough room to rest. Some bus stops don’t have anywhere to sit at all. But in South East Avenue in the Highland town neighborhood of Baltimore they made an art out of it.  This BUS stop is made with wood and steel, stands fourteen feet tall and seven feet wide. ‘B’ provides shelter, ‘U’ for sitting and ’S’ to lie back while they wait; a fun place for the inevitable waiting in the middle of the city. The BUS stop was crafted by the Spanish art collective, as part of a project which brought European artists to a transit stop in each of the cities three art districts. This bus stop design works for many reasons, the big advertisement of the word communicates daily in an artful manner for people to commute. The art might bring a younger range of commuters. This bus stop reaches out to the community as being a part of their city.

The Siren

The Starbucks siren is one of the most recognizable logos around the world. The company was named after a character in the novel Moby Dick. The two tailed siren wearing a crown on the logo is a symbol from Greek mythology. The Starbucks siren is topless and has a double fish tail, and it has raised some eyebrows because of it. The logo has been adjusted to fit the corporate image. It has been simplified where you can't see any details of the siren, like before. This logo has worked because it has somehow become part of culture. Everyone is constantly taking photos of their cups and posting on Instagam, twitter and other social media, giving Starbucks the extra, and free publicity. The interesting thing about this symbol is that sirens are seen as brutal sociopaths who used to murder sailors because they were attractive. A siren would sing and make sailors so obsessed that they would crash into rocks and die. So the logo has a hint of obsession, addiction and death? Which makes sense of their customers who are addicted to coffee and have become obsessed with the company. Either way, this logo and company are successful in marketing, product and design and will be a long time.

The Matthew McConaughey

The Matthew Mcconaughey commercial proves that bad attention is still attention. Which also applies to parodies by good actors/comedians like Ellen Degeneres and Jim Carrey. Matthew Mcconaughey's commercial left people confused on it's point but the key of it was, that it left people  talking about a commercial, period. With a million plus views on youtube it beats out the BMWx4 commercial with only 124,000 views. The parodies give it extra views and attention, like appearing in the Ellen Degenres show and also being shown in the skits on SNL. After the various skits, Jim Carrey went on the Late Show, to talk about his impression that he popularized on SNL in which he makes fun of McConaughey's philosophical approach to the Lincoln car. This commercial is highly successful because of the life it took beyond it's debut. The additional attention made it's context reach a broader audience by making fun of it, reaching a younger market.

WTF?

These is a blackberry energy drink that uses good flakes instead of sugar. Looks like vodka, so it's definitely appealing. The packaging is visually pleasing, it's pretty and demands attention by the WTF? acronym, which would be appealing to a younger generation. The sugar free drink contains carbonated water, blackberry extract, vitamin c, ginseng, niacin, Vitamin B6, B12, Gold flakes and 0.4% Taurin and 0.03% caffeine. This is for people who want an energy beverage that doesn't have sugar and maybe for people who enjoy the taste and like the design. It is intended to be used not in the United States, since the flakes are questionable. Since it's release the vodka version is now available, making it confusing because the design on the label is almost the same. It's a good idea because it is appealing and it's fine the way it is.

Solar Forest

The Solar Forest is panels that follow the sun throughout the day. This idea is based on the fact that it charges electric cars while still providing shade for cars parked under it. The tree trunks are power strips for electric vehicles and you can plug your car to get recharged. It was designed by Neville Mars. This is for electric car owners, and can work as stations in places where there’s not many of them. This could work where it’s mostly sunny, like Palm Springs, Coachella, Vegas and other desert like places. This is an inspiring concept, something like this is needed. The only problem would be in places that it’s not as sunny, then this wouldn’t be as useful. This is a great concept and with more help and funding it could be beneficial for everyone. Promote more electrical cars and less dependance on oil.

Hidden message?

From up close, this very serious looking image of committing to success looks harmless, but from far away, it looks like it says commit suicide. The idea of this is to promote a serious view in committing to be successful, but it's too serious. The black, the font make it look like a prevention image instead. It's intended to be shared through social medias but it's not hopeful. The materials were chosen to give it a serious approach. This idea has been used in many different ways, but this idea is anything but successful. It sucks, who wants to be motivated with this? It could be improved by changing the background colors and going with a different typeface. No one needs subliminal messages, even if it wasn't intended that way.

Solar Charger

The Window Solar Charger can be used to power your smartphone through sunlight from the window. The charger is a rechargeable lithium battery that holds 1400mah of electric charge. The way it works it converts solar energy into electricity through an electro-chemical process. The solar panel gathers and stores the energy into the internal battery. This is useful for people who want to charge their phones but are not neat any power outlets, people who are at the beach or a park. Or people who want to save electricity by using natural resources at their house or while they work. air is intended to be used while it’s sunny. The materials in this design were chosen because it can stick to any window, it can be used at home, in the car, or at the office. The energy is completely green, as it is all collected through solar panels on the window facing side of the device. There’s an indicator that glows red when receiving charge, and turns green when the onboard battery is full. You can lay it flat on a table near a window or you could use the 3 mm thick silicone ring to stick it on to the glass of the inside of a window. Both sides of the ring are sticky, and when this no longer is sticky, you can just wash it & air dry it. One of the flaws and complaints from this design is the silicon sticky ring, I think it could be bet use a different method to be stick on windows, like suction cups. And this idea should be used for laptops and other electrical products as well.

Goldie

Goldie by Nice is a plug in add-on cover that gives cord storage to apple chargers. You can wrap your usb cable around it and it provides a cradle for your device. It is a smart cable management solution for customers that want to charge their phones in different places but don't want to place their phones just anywhere or don't have somewhere to place it. It has a bright aquatic costume for your stark, white accessories.  This product is meant to be used anywhere, the materials aren't bulky, so they're easy to carry. It is a good idea, provided that it could hold various iPhone weight and doesn't break inside a backpack or a purse.

Replenish Multi-Surface Cleaner

Eco friendly spray bottles are made to be reusable and lessen the waste of plastic bottles.
Replenish Multi-surface cleaner comes in small pods that you screw into a spray bottle that is included in the starter kit. You dilute the solution in each pod with water and it makes four bottles. The solution is plant based cleanser in green tea, lavender, lemon or unscented. This product is intended for the eco friendly consumer and just like liquid detergent, you are able to get more out of your money. Instead of buying four bottles, you only use one pod. Essentially saving you time to go to the store, or having to store so many bottles at once.
This product is intended to be used at home on multi-surfaces. Something that could be be a problem is the name of the product. When you search Replenish, you get Opti-Free contact cleaner, a different name would help it be more accessible to the consumers. It's a great idea for conserving water and lessening plastic waste.

Coffee Lovers

The Bodum french press is great for making coffee. It's design is simple and effective. It is made for coffee lovers out there. You boil water, measure the amount of coffee you want to use, and grind the beans. Add ground coffee to the carafe, add boiling water and stir. You wait four mins, push the plunger down and pour. People can use it at home or their office. The only small problems are you have to wake up early to prepare your coffee and sometimes the glass can break, but they sell replacements. Other than that, it is one of the top ten best french presses, according to Hubpages.

Darling Magazine

Darling Magazine, the art of being a woman.
The design of this magazine is feminine and beautiful. Their philosophy; "Darling Magazine holds the modern mold of woman up to the fire to evoke a discussion on femininity and re-shape an authentic design. Darling is a catalyst for positive change..."

The modern typeface and photography layouts attract a sophisticated, affluent reader. Their photographs are not photoshopped, their pages are thicker to have more of a book feeling, that way it's kept and not thrown out. It is not targeted towards tweens, but a more career oriented, post college graduate. It is a great idea because it targets the same customers that shop at Anthropologie, kind of a photographic look at what they believe is their customers lifestyle. They have 9 issues as of now and a subscriber gets one magazine every three months. It is successful because it is sold by Anthropologie, where their clientele is exactly who this magazine is for. The kind of store that creates energy into their flourishing store experience.
